Buckles To Billions... Not quite.

For anyone who does not know, we've had a belt buckle website for about 2 years now (www.bucklethatbelt.com). It's constantly this "work in progress" that never actually progresses. I am like an army of ants with this project - doing so little that it barely makes a difference at all. Fast forward to April of this year and Jeff decided he needed a "part time job" that made more money so that we could survive his Nursing School venture. We started to brainstorm ideas and after multiple discussions, we decided that Jeff working a booth one weekend a month out at Canton could be a great way to make some money without interfering with his busy school schedule. 

Jeff's idea was to "throw some belt buckles on a table and sell the crap out of them" - my idea was just a bit different. Maybe it's my marketing background or the small slice of "girly" that I have running around in me that refused to just throw product on a table, close my eyes and hope for the best. In my mind, it was going to be a little different. When I need creativity, I tend to always go to Jennifer. She is an extremely hard worker that has tons of ideas on how to make a bunch of crap look cute. We brainstormed one night over a bottle of wine and some roasted veggies and came up with a few extra products to buy at wholesale and scoured our homes for cute things to use as a display.

The days of Canton were long, tiring and somewhat frustrating - but I think it's something that shows some great potential. Our location was really bad - for what we were selling. Now, if we were selling plants, metal cows or rugs - we would have been in the exact location that would have been fantastic. But, selling handbags, belts and buckles, blingy flip-flops, jewelry, etc... was a bit more of a challenge.

My dad drove in for the weekend to help out and of course Jennifer was there to see us through all the product we knew absolutely nothing about. Andrew was there as well - and he did fantastic!

I think we will be trying Canton again next month. It's one weekend a month and it's actually kinda fun. Getting out of the house, setting up a booth and chatting with people all day long is tiring, but energizing. It may get very, very old after 2 or 3 months but at this point it was entertaining and was a great way for all of us to spend some good time together.
